PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Instructions
Use latex within two months if possible. Always keep your moulding latex in a cool place (not below 5C), heat and warmth makes latex cure off. The container of latex is always to be kept air tight while not in use.

To make a mould

  • I. Start with a small pattern using a solid item.
  • 2. Place the pattern on a base or tray to hold the surplus latex that flows down the mould. As you add the latex layers to the item use the liquid run off again by placing in the container for re-use.
  • 3. Paint or dip the latex on to the pattern one layer at a time, allow to dry between coats. Moulding latex dries to a semi clear finish on the first coat.
  • 4. Build the layers of latex up to a suitable thickness for the size of the pattern.
  • 5. Always allow to dry and cure before use.
  • 6. To reduce the numbers of latex coats you can use Latex Thickener by adding 10 drops of thickener to 50ml of latex and stir well together.
  • 7. After a short time the latex will thicken, thus making the build-up of the pattern a lot quicker.
  • 8. When your mould is to the desired thickness, you can heat vulcanise the mould to make it strong and durable.
  • 9. Heat the mould in an oven and slowly heat at 100C, no longer than 20 minutes and afterwards, allowing the mould to cool.
  • 10. Trim with scissors the cured excess latex from the mould, this creates a neater finished mould.
  • 11. To remove the mould from the pattern, lubricate the mould with soap and water, rub on the mould, then peel off e.g. like a rubber glove.
  • 12. The soap mixture stops the mould from tearing - always take care when de-moulding the latex.
  • 13. To make a support for your mould, use a piece of cardboard or ply, cut a hole in the supporting material to allow the mould to sit in an upside-down position, do not forget to allow for the weight of the casting in the mould. If necessary fasten the mould to the support with clips, screws, etc.

To add life to your latex mould

  • 1. Wash the mould inside after use, using soap and water.
  • 2. Stand the mould so it allows the water to drain out from the mould.
  • 3. Add dust to the mould with talc powder and store in an air-tight container in a cool place.
